Request #20-16

Under the Public Records Act we request access and copies of the following:
1. Unclaimed or outstanding checks including dates, names, last addresses and amounts due the payees that have been going unclaimed for at least six months but not more than five years. (Generally these are vendor or accounts payable checks.)
2. All unclaimed bonds and bond proceeds, including the dates, names, last addresses, and amounts due the bondholders. (Bonds are debt obligations issued by public agencies that use the loans to fund public projects such as the construction of schools, hospitals, and highways. We're not interested in performance bonds.)
A list of these items, rather than actual copies is acceptable. And we can accept it by email.
We are only interested in items that are $5,000 or over and ones issued by your office (not ones that have escheated to the state unclaimed property office).

I have attached the unclaimed checks and this is the response that I received for the unclaimed bonds:

Unclaimed Bonds – Metro bonds are held through global Depository Trust Corporation (DTC). The Trustee banks submit all debt service payments to DTC, and they have confirmed that they have no record of unclaimed bonds.

Unclaimed Bond proceeds- Metro does not have unclaimed bond proceeds. All bond proceeds on deposit are held by the Trustees pending payment for capital projects, refunding escrow redemptions or to satisfy debt service requirements.

Metro's NextRequest (Public Records Tracking System) is maintained in compliance with Metro's records retention policy and records schedule. Requests and attachments will be removed from this system according to Metro’s records retention schedule.  This is to maintain the consistency and integrity of the records management program, as well as the utility of this system.

If applicable, please note:  The records requests themselves and any attachments will be deleted 3 Years after request closure.

If records are made available, please make sure you access/download/pick-up the records as soon as possible.  System records will be removed automatically at their expiration periods. Use of this system is not intended to extend or reduce Metro's adopted retention schedule time periods.

You may contact me at if you have any questions related to this public records request.
